2004 Employee Volunteer Survey Results

In October of 2004, a volunteerism survey was mailed to 5,600 SUNY Upstate Employees with the following results:

  • 567 surveys were returned—10% of Upstate employee population
  • Employees reported over 50,000 hours of volunteerism 2004
  • Organizations mentioned most frequently were:
    • Churches and Synagogues
    • Schools
    • Youth and Community Groups
    • Fire Departments
    • School Sports
    • CNY Children's Hospital
  • Agencies most frequently mentioned were:
    • American Heart Association
    • American Cancer Society
    • American Red Cross
    • Arthritis Foundation
    • Food pantry programs
    • Literacy groups
    • Vera HouseRape Crisis Center
    • Hospice and Palliative Care Association
  • Volunteer work includes:
    • General assistance (clerical and administrative, building and maintenance support)
    • Fundraising (phonathons, etc.)
    • Board and committee membership
    • Teaching and tutoring (wellness, college preparation, etc.)
    • Participating in fundraising walks and runs
